The Antidote to Burnout is Alignment
Is it on purpose that I call myself a Purpose Coach? Yes, yes it is.
When I sold Wander & Perch last year (aka the consumer product business that I founded, scaled, and sold), I took some time to think about what I wanted to do next.
As I reflected on my journey from extreme burnout to sincerely enjoying the life I’ve redesigned, I realized the two people who helped me most to take a hard look at what I truly wanted were my health coach, Hilary Lafone, and my career coach, Mindy Thomas. What struck me about being coached by each of these women was how deeply introspective and goal-oriented these experiences were.
Unlike talk therapy, where time is often spent working through the impact of past experiences, coaching was almost exclusively future-focused: where did I want to go in life, what was holding me back from that vision, and what did I need to do to reach my goal? You should see my notebooks after these sessions.
In the depths of my burnout, Hilary helped me realize that I had a terrible habit, as many women do, of putting myself last on my “to-do” list. With her help, I was able to bring fun and balance into my life in a way I hadn’t since becoming a mom.
I reprioritized exercise and learned that it wasn't just ok, but necessary, to listen to my body and rest when I felt the most overwhelmed. To recharge, I picked up painting as a new hobby, reconnecting with the flow state I fell into as a little girl when I would color.
In 2020, the COVID shutdown took my luxury travel accessory business from six figures to zero essentially overnight, so I took a consulting job to wait out the lockdown. As travel restrictions lifted, I was torn about whether to dive back into my business or pivot to something new.
Mindy helped me recognize that I wasn’t done writing my Wander & Perch story, which energized me to re-engage, build new client relationships, and ultimately negotiate the successful sale of the company I founded nearly ten years earlier.
I am not a health and wellness expert like Hilary, or an expert resume writer and executive coach like Mindy. But I have mastered how to move past burnout, create an authentic vision for my life, and emerge successfully on the other side, healthier and happier than before.
To me, purpose is not a destination, but rather a lifelong journey. It is learning to listen to your inner voice as it asks, encourages, and ultimately demands that you answer and contribute to the world in the way you were meant to. The antidote to burnout is alignment.
I spent years in a career misaligned with my true nature. It’s why I’m so passionate about helping women quit stalling on the perfect time to prioritize themselves.
So, what dream have you kept on the back burner that’s waiting to spring to life? What whisper have you been ignoring that you are ready to explore? You’ve got a lot of living to do, let me help you figure out what’s next.
